Ignite Talk (Ethics): 2015 Mandela Fellowship Assignment

During the 2015 Mandela Washington Fellowship, towards the end of the program, every fellow in my school, University of Nevada-Reno, was tasked (challenged) to write an ‘Ignite Talk’ on Ethics. There were no rules, as long as the subject was ethics. The goal was for every school in the fellowship to present a talk during the DC presidential summit. Each school would end up choosing one submission and one person to present. Below is my Ignite talk on Ethics. This is how I put it together to present so it may not flow like an article. Three years ago, I would have never imagined standing here, ...

Stranger Things: 10 Mind-Blowing Facts About The Show

Stranger Things: 10 Mind-Blowing Facts About The Show

I haven’t binge watched a show in a long time till Stranger Things came along. After watching the first 20 minutes of the pilot on a weekday, I knew I had to pause and binge over the weekend. Stranger Things is an American science fiction horror web television series released on Netflix on July 15, 2016. The show is set in 1983 Indiana, USA, where a young boy vanishes vanishes mysteriously. In the middle of the show, I got a ‘Fringe’ vibe, but they played it out nicely and realistically to the 80’s.  The ensemble cast portrays the best acting I have seen in ...

Baked Plantains and Vegetables [Recipe]

Yesterday I was feeling really hungry and didn’t want to buy food outside or eat anything with oil and pepper. Fun fact, my stomach dislikes pepper and I get sick every time. It has never disappointed, but my tongue loves pepper, and shito is my favourite must have food accessory. I didn’t feel like getting sick today and I had been craving vegetables all week, so I decided to prepare something different from my usual raw or boiled vegetables. I checked the fridge I had an awesome amount of vegetables I could use. I took them all out and realised I ...

The EWB Kumvana Program

[crayon-5a5e303d47c2f866416113/] If you follow me on twitter and Facebook you might have seen kumvana and ewb hashtags all over my timelines. I am a 2015 Kumvana fellow and I will tell you a bit about the program. But first, something about EWB. EWB stands for Engineers Without Borders and it is an organisation founded in Canada in 2000 by CEOs, George Roter and Parker Mitchell on a napkin in a coffee shop. With a dream of an organization that would enable engineers to contribute something other than another bridge or another electrical grid, they started off with biweekly meetings in George’s parents’ ...

[Poem] – It’s Like An Invisible Glass Between You And Me

Cases and faces Maybe they are all reasons Souls and feelings Maybe they all fail to provide meaning It’s like an invisible glass between you and me Maybe you see it Maybe you don’t Either you see it however I see it I conceal it and feel behind closed doors It’s like an invisible glass between you and me You care less about the subtle pool on my face It’s like a fast race of dripping bubbles in a pace I can’t face I gently put on a smile and whisper in your ear It’s like an invisible glass ...

Who Is An Illiterate?

“You are an illiterate!” – This is a very common insult among Ghanaians, especially school children. It is probably the one insult that sums up your whole life and very depressing as such. According to the Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, an illitrate can be any of these definitions, “not knowing how to read or write”, “having or showing a lack of knowledge about a particular subject”, ” not grammatically correct”. I have been struggling with the concept of education since high school and trying to understand why we refer to others who can’t read or write ‘English’ illiterates. This is a very sensitive ...

What does it mean to hold on? What does it mean to be afraid? What does it mean to let go? What does it mean to LIVE? From my existence as a younging till now Every breath I take Every tear I cry Every step I take Every hurdle Every stride I make Every happiness I feel Every love Every anger Every smile Those rainy and stormy days Those sunny and dry days Those flooded days Those moments I looked up to you Those eyes filled with tears Those eyes filled with confusion Those eyes filled with anger Those eyes ...

My Top 40 favourite Songs of 2013

Music Music Music! We all love listening to music. Music is a great way for me to forget about everything and concentrate on being happy and worry about nothing and live in the moment. Music heals and it’s definitely an important piece in my life. I listen to a lot of genres, any music that sounds good and delivers a good message is okay for me, eventhough sometimes the lyrics just don’t make sense and I probably enjoy such music because of the instrumentals and mixing. Without further or do, in no particular order, here is my top 30 favourite ...

My Top 10 Favourite TV Series of 2013

I love watching series and honestly they are all american. I can’t blame them for making good series.  Here is a list of series I look forward to every week. Some of the series I love to watch are not shown anymore,  but I still love them and enjoy them as much as I love those still running. Modern Family ( This show is great, but somehow I wish there was a black family, that will make it perfect. It will be a great way for everyone to relate to the characters. I hope that happens sometime soon 🙂 )  The ...

My Top 10 Favourite Must Have Linux Apps

I love the Linux operating system. It is the best and I have tried so many distributions and I have finally settled on one I like, Ubuntu 12.04. I was never a huge fan of linux and I disliked the look and feel. I was comfortable with using windows and I wasn’t interested using another OS. However, it sounded cool to be a linux user and so I partitioned my drive and installed linux on it. I never really used it and brought it up during geeky conversations to sound cool :), don’t judge me! I am a huge fan ...

So You Bought An App?

I had never owned a Smart Device till now. And in February this year I installed Bluestacks  App Player for windows ( by then I was more into Windows than Linux ). Bluestacks  App Player allows you to operate in an android-like environment in the player. You can install android apps in bluestacks and it works great. I installed a couple of free apps like WatsApp and some word games. I bought my first app on bluestacks. I loved the game ‘Field Runners HD’ and decided to purchase it for $1.99. I felt great after my first app purchase, but a couple ...

5 Reasons You Should Try The Laravel PHP Framework

I have been a php developer for 2 years now and in that time I never used a Framework. I was obsessed with learning many programming languages, but after almost a year, I decided to concentrate on being a web app developer, using primarily PHP. PHP is awesome and it is one language I understand extremely well and can express myself, just like JAVA, but I still prefer PHP. A friend of mine introduced me to the PHP Codeigniter framework, and I decided to try it.   I started learning and the documentation was absolutely fantastic. It took me a ...
